Blockbuster super-stars Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson (Jumanji: The Next Level, Hobbs & Shaw) and Emily Blunt (Edge of Tomorrow, A Quiet Place) are at it again and are partnering up with Disney for the latest summer blockbuster Jungle Cruise.
Directed by horror-thriller filmmaker Jaume Collet-Serra (The Shallows, Non-Stop) from a screenplay by Michael Green (Logan, Blade Runner 2049) and based on an initial story by Glenn Ficarra & John Requa (Cats & Dogs), Jungle Cruise is a live-action adaptation of the popular Disneyland attraction.
Johnson stars as shrewd riverboat captain Frank Wolff, with Blunt as the adventurous Dr. Lily Houghton. The duo embarks on a quest to find the infamous Tree of Life as a competing German expedition, led by the deranged Prince Joachim (Jesse Plemmons, Game Night), also joins the search. Watch the official trailer (and read the description) for Jungle Cruise below:
The film has been in “development hell” since as early as 2004 with stars like Tom Hanks and Tim Allen in the initial talks to star before Jungle Cruise got the green-light in 2015 when The Rock became attached to the project. It wasn’t until 2018, when Emily Blunt got involved, that a rewrite of the initial script by Michael Green was undertaken, leading to the film being released this summer. It certainly looks like it’s going to be, like the theme park attraction before it, a fun adventure ride!
Jungle Cruise comes to theaters, and Disney+’s Premier Access, on July 30th.
