The long-discussed adaptation of the hit video game The Last Of Us finally has its stars. HBO has announced Pedro Pascal will be playing Joel and Bella Ramsey Ellie. Both choices are sure to make fans happy.
Pedro Pascal first rose to fame portraying Oberyn Martell in Game of Thrones. He’s since starred in Netflix hit Narcos and has found a new legion of fans as the main character in The Mandalorian.
Bella Ramsey is another Game of Thrones alumni. She got her break playing feisty noblewoman Lyanna Mormont who met her demise at the hands of a resurrected giant. She’s also appeared in a number of British shows, but the role of Ellie is sure to put her on the road to Hollywood.
For those who have been sleeping under a rock, The Last of Us is one of the biggest video games in recent years. Set 20 years in the future, the world has been devastated by a virus that turns people into zombies. Joel, a smuggler, is tasked with escorting Ellie, who is impervious to the virus, to a secret location in hopes of finding a cure.
The game is not only challenging but focuses on the relationship between the older Joel and teenage Ellie. The two form a strong bond as they must overcome not only the undead but their fellow humans. It’s a heartbreaking tale of survival as the two must depend on each other as they make their way across a post-apocalyptic America.
The Last of Us is being written by Craig Mazin (creator of Chernobyl) and executive produced by Neil Druckmann, the writer and creative director of the game. Russian filmmaker Kantemir Balagov (the man behind Cannes hit Beanpole) is set to direct the first episode.
There’s no release date yet but we’ll be sure to let you know when more information comes to hand.
