The Sex Pistols were one of the most controversial music acts of all time. The brash punk collective raged against the machine of the pre-Thatcher era, sending teens wild and frightening parents. Despite their career lasting only two and a half years, the Sex Pistols are one of the most important musical groups to ever grace a stage. Now the group is set to be immortalized on the small screen. Announced in January, Pistols is a six-part series about the group based on the memoir Lonely Boy: Tales From a Sex Pistol, written by the band’s guitarist Steven Jones. It will focus on the rise and fall of vocalist Johnny Rotten, guitarist Jones, drummer Paul Cook, and bassist Glen Matlock, who was replaced by Sid Vicious in early 1977. Take a look at the first official photos of the show below featuring the band in full flight.

Director and producer Danny Boyle (Trainspotting, Slumdog Millionaire) is extremely excited about the film, releasing a statement saying: “Imagine breaking into the world of ‘The Crown’ and ‘Downton Abbey’ with your mates and screaming your songs and your fury at all they represent. This is the moment that British society and culture changed forever. It is the detonation point for British street culture… where ordinary young people had the stage and vented their fury and their fashion… and everyone had to watch and listen… and everyone feared them or followed them. The Sex Pistols. At its center was a young charming illiterate kleptomaniac – a hero for the times – Steve Jones, who became in his own words, the 94th greatest guitarist of all time. This is how he got there.” The limited series will star Anson Boon as Rotten, Toby Wallace as Jones, Jacob Slater as Paul Cook, Christian Lees as Matlock, and Louis Partridge as Sid Vicious. Also appearing are Thomas Brodie-Sangster as Malcolm McLaren, Maisie Williams as punk icon Jordan, and Talulah Riley as punk design icon Vivienne Westwood. Pistols doesn’t have an official release date yet but will hopefully hit screens in early 2022.
