Legendary car builder Enzo Ferrari and his son, Alfredo “Dino” Ferrari often clashed over the direction of the Italian company. While Enzo loved the power of the 12 cylinder engine, Alfredo believed the future was in the smaller V6. Despite their disagreements, Alfredo did manage to get a V6 into production. The result is one of Ferrari’s most iconic cars, the 1972 Ferrari Dino 246 GTS. RM Sotheby’s The engine was first created to help Ferrari enter Formula Two, and was quickly given the green light to go into production, birthing the Dino 206 GT prototype. The first of which was displayed at the 1965 Paris Motor Show. It was then updated for the 1966 Turin Salon before finally going into production in 1968. A number of versions were released over the next four years before the 1972 Ferrari Dino 246 GTS took off and led to global success. This particular model up for auction comes in the classic red colorway with a removable Targa-top.
