Is there anything Liam Neeson can’t do? The middle-aged action hero has battled wolves (The Grey), sex traffickers (Taken), aliens (Men In Black: International), and the Empire (Star Wars: The Phantom Menace), but faces his greatest test in the action thriller The Ice Road. In this blockbuster from Jonathan Hensleigh (Welcome to the Jungle, Kill the Irishman), Neeson must lead a rescue mission across a frozen ocean to save 26 trapped miners. Recruited by Laurence Fishburne (The Matrix), Neeson must assemble a team of ragtag drivers to cross the thawing ice to free the miners. The catch is they have only 30 hours to complete the rescue and someone on the team is trying to sabotage the mission for nefarious reasons.
As you can see from the trailer, this looks like a couple of hours of Hollywood popcorn fun. Neeson and Fishburne are always enjoyable and some of the major set pieces look like they’ve been ripped straight from the Fast & Furious franchise, which isn’t a bad thing. The cast also includes Benjamin Walker (Flags of Our Fathers), Amber Midthunder (Hell or High Water), Holt McCallany (Mindhunter), Marcus Thomas (Kill the Irishman), Matt McCoy (L.A. Confidential), and Matt Salinger (Revenge of the Nerds). The Ice Road starts streaming on Netflix on June 25.
