Mercedes-AMG is now the proud title holder of the fastest “luxury class” vehicle on the Nürburgring Nordschleife after the 2021 model year GT 63 S smashed the legendary “North Loop” 2018 record by 2.3 seconds. Reclaiming the top spot thanks to AMG development engineers’ fine-tuning, the four-door coupe from Affalterbach, the fastest in its class. Cared for by AMG development engineer Damian Schaffert, the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S conquered the Nürburgring “North Loop” in 7:23.009 min for the 12.8-mile-long version (without straight-line measurement for track section T13) and 7:27.800 min for the 12.944-mile-long complete track (with straight-line measurement for track section T13). Officially 2.3 seconds faster than the previous record-holder from 2018, Mercedes-AMG is again the king of the track after regaining its crown.

It comes shortly after Porsche the Panamera Turbo S clocked in a 7:25.04 around the 12.8-mile layout, calling on Mercedes to “hit the track again…” Mercedes held the record with a time of 7:30.11, before the Panamera nobbled the GT 63 S with the last time of 7:29.81. A record that only encouraged Mercedes-AMG to work even harder. “Our record lap was the best of its class,” said Mercedes in a social media post. “and only 0.3 seconds off of a recent record time you may have heard about. Completing the extremely demanding course in less than optimal conditions, Mercedes-AMG had to contend with wet spots and outside temperatures of 44.6 degrees Fahrenheit, and asphalt temperatures of 50 degrees.
