The show is being written by Josh Wakely and will have input from Ali’s estate. Currently titled, The Greatest, the series will delve deep into Ali’s life outside the ring. Jay-Z is on board as an executive producer and sure to be involved with the soundtrack, which will no doubt be hip-hop heavy.
The only bad news is Jordan won’t be taking on the role of Ali. While someone unknown could work, I lean towards casting Mahershala Ali, another tremendous actor making big strides in Hollywood.
“This is character driven and compelling,” the Creed star said. “People know Muhammad Ali from his boxing days, but this is an opportunity to go beyond the ring, and more into the man. It’s going to give more of a 360 degree view of who he was. And no, I’m not playing that guy, I can say that for sure, and we are still in early stages here and can’t say too much. We are still putting the pieces together, but it feels like something to look forward to in the future.”
In an all too familiar story, Jordan’s Navy Seal John Kelly discovers his family murdered by Russian soldiers in retaliation for a top-secret mission he was previously involved in. Seeking revenge, Jordan teams with fellow SEAL team member Karen Greer (Jodie Turner-Smith) and shadowy CIA agent Robert Ritter (Jamie Bell). The trio uncovers a wide-reaching conspiracy that threatens war between America and Russia.
