A documentary about the life and times of Kanye West has been sold to Netflix for $30 million. The docuseries will feature never-before-seen footage of West and cover all the major points of his career, from his music and fashion ventures to his failed 2020 presidential bid and the tragic death of his mother, Donda West. The streaming giant’s latest series comes courtesy of Clarence “Coodie” Simmons and Chike Ozah, better known as Coodie & Chike. The duo has years of experience behind the camera, having shot videos for West’s Jesus Walks (the third version) and Through the Wire, as well as directed ESPN’s 2012 30-for-30 film, Benji, and Netflix’s 2019 documentary on Stephon Marbury, A Kid From Coney Island. The untitled series is set to premiere later this year and will be the first time fans have gotten a detailed look at West’s life (appearing on the Kardashian’s doesn’t count). Although West isn’t directly involved with the project, Coodie and the rapper have been friends for years, so it’s assumed the docuseries has his blessing.  This isn’t the only documentary about West in the works, with his former bodyguard Steve Stanulis currently in negotiations for a tell-all-doco about the stormy relationship between the two.  Until either doco is released, check out some vintage footage of West rapping at Fat Beats at the tender age of 19.
