Covering a broader spectrum than ever before, the new Porsche Panamera marries sports car performance with the exclusive comfort of a luxury saloon. Comprehensively revamped, this new generation of the Panamera will hit the road holding the record for the fastest “executive car” on the Nürburgring. Arriving in dealerships in the middle of October, orders are now open for the brand new, faster than ever, Porsche Panamera. Already a pleasure to drive in 2020, the 2021 Porsche Panamera Turbo S has been made even better, like a returning veteran out for one last victory. Gaining significant performance improvements (probably thanks to the extra letter in its name), the Turbo S transfers enormous power to the road thanks to a combination of optimized systems developed by the talented engineers at Porsche.
Already proven on the legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife, legendary test driver Lars Kern completed the 20.832-kilometer-long lap in exactly 7:29.81 minutes. Beating out the previous record by 13 seconds on the most demanding race track in the world, the Panamera Turb S holds the official record for the “executive cars” class. Describing the enhancements made to the 2021 Panamera, Kern recognized the improvements made to the chassis and the powertrain which held him in several of the tracks most grueling sections. “In the Hatzenbach or also Bergwerk and Kesselchen sections, in particular, the new setup of the electromechanical roll stabilization system remains consistently effective and provides the Panamera with incredible stability in spite of the bumpy track surface. At the Schwedenkreuz, the car benefited from the improved lateral dynamics and the increased grip of the new Michelin sports tires. I achieved cornering speeds there that I would not have believed possible with the Panamera.”
While it’s nowhere near the fastest Porsche on the Nürburgring (the 918 Spyder at 6:57:00), for a luxury saloon in the “executive cars” class, it’s pretty darn quick. Accelerating to 60 mph in 2.9 seconds, the Panamera is capable of reaching speeds of 196 mph on the track, thanks to the extra power of the 4.0L V8 engine, complete with new turbochargers and fuel injectors. Thanks to additional dampeners, vibrations are kept to a minimum to prevent all that power from encroaching on your Sunday drive. Coupled with a set of 21-inch Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, this car drives like a dream.
Benefiting also from an updated steering system for even greater responsiveness on the road and precision control, Kern complimented the “cornering stability, body control and steering precision” of the Turbo S after completing the record-making lap. “These enhancements benefit both everyday comfort and performance. The lap record is impressive proof of this,” he said. Driving alongside the Turbo S will be three additional Panemera’s including a pair of plug-in hybrid variants alongside the Turbo S Sport Turismo. Each model will be equipped with the previously optional Sport Design front end, bringing those striking air intake grilles as standard for every new Panamera.
Combined a luxurious interior and digital comforts like wireless Apple CarPlay and voice control, the new Porsche Panamera might have Mercedes trembling in their German boots. Find out more on newsroom.porsche.com
