Looking like the quintessential 80s sportscar, the Vector M12 Coupe is an ultra-rare automobile that sadly failed to make an impact. Built by Vector Aeromotive under parent company Megatech, the Vector was inspired by the Lamborghini Diablo, as evident by its aerodynamic shape.  According to the description provided by auctioneers Barrett-Jackson’s Scottsdale, famed English motoring journalist Jeremy Clarkson described the Vector as, “an international hybrid – which has risen, phoenix-like, from the ashes.” Unfortunately for Vector Aeromotive, this phoenix didn’t rise for long. Due to low demand and problems within the company, only 14 Vector M12s were built between 1996 and 1999 before production was ceased. This model is 12 of 14 and was built to order for the Prince of Brunei. His only request was the Vector feature black exterior and Lipstick Red interior, creating a striking look.

The car is in incredible condition and has certainly been looked after over the years. The 5.7-liter Lamborghini V12 engine has a five-speed manual gearbox and produces 492 horsepower and 425 pound-feet of torque. The sleek Vector has a top speed of 192 mph and is capable of reaching 0-60 mph in 4.5 seconds.  Given a full engine service in 2019, this version of the Vektor also has a rebuilt clutch with an upgraded ceramic flywheel. It’s only done 2,160 miles, which is amazing considering the car has been around for over two decades. It’s been with the same owner for the past 16 years who often lent the car to automotive museums, including the Marconi Automotive Museum, Riverside Raceway Museum, and in the Petersen Automotive Museum’s “Supercars of the World” exhibit. You can get your hands on this automotive piece of history when it goes up for auction later this month via Barrett-Jackson’s Scottsdale.
