Supercars don’t get much rarer than the Isdera Imperator 108i. This retro German automobile was originally going to be a Mercedes-Benz, but the automaker knocked back designer Eberhard Schultz’s plans in 1978. While they didn’t like the look of the CW311 concept, Mercedes provided Schultz with the financial backing to produce the car under his own company, Isdera. Assembly began in 1984 and continued until 1993, with a total of 30 Isdera Imperator 108i’s being built. Throughout its short history, the Imperator underwent many upgrades and tweaks, including different engines powering the supercar and adjustments to the aerodynamic design and interior features.

This model is from 1991 and has some of the more luxurious additions that make the Imperator such an iconic car. It has a more curvaceous shape, gull-wing doors, and pop-up headlights, something it borrowed from Ferrari.  The engine of the 91 Imperator is a 5.0-liter V8 mated to a five-speed ZF gearbox. This impressive setup enables the Imperator to reach 0-60 mph in about 5.0 seconds with a top speed of 176 mph. That might not seem like anything to write home about, but considering the time 180i came out, it’s not to be laughed at.

This flashy silver Imperator 108i will be auctioned during Bonhams Monaco Carlo auction on April 23 and is expected to fetch between $590,000 to $830,000.
