Paramount Pictures has teased fans by releasing the trailer to the G.I. Joe spin-off film Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins. The film, which will be released in late August, stars Henry Golding (Crazy Rich Asians) as the titular Snake Eyes and is being billed as a more classic martial arts action flick than a superhero comic book story.
The trailer is chock full of tightly choreographed action and chase sequences set to New Level by A$AP Ferg, with the bareheaded Golding looking comfortable throwing himself around. Ray Park played the role of Snake Eyes in the two previous G.I. Joe films, 2009s Rise of the Cobra and 2013s Retaliation. The Snake Eyes trailer kicks off with the tagline “every warrior has a beginning,” and will delve into the backstory of the enigmatic ninja, who comes to the Arashikage clan to train as a ninja. Other actors to appearing include Iko Uwais (The Raid 1 & 2), Andrew Koji (Warrior), Peter Mensah (Spartacus), Ursula Corbero (Who Killed Bambi?), Samara Weaving (Ready or Not), Haruka Abe (47 Ronin), and Takehiro Hira (Heroes). Snake Eyes will be directed by German filmmaker Robert Schwentke (Red, The Time Traveler’s Wife). Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins will hit cinemas on July 23.
