The limited edition Tesla Tequila sold out within hours of the expression being released on Friday.  Selling for $250 USD the Tesla Tequila is described as a small batch, premium, 100% agave añejo, made from sustainably sourced highland and lowland agaves. It was aged in French oak barrels for 15 months.  

  According to the Tesla website, it is a sipping Tequila and has a ‘dry fruit and light vanilla nose with a balanced cinnamon pepper finish’.   Tesla Tequila is produced by Tequila maker Nosotros.  The hand-blown glass bottle is shaped as a lightning bolt and is easily recognizable.  Within hours of its’ select state US Launch the product was described as out of stock on the website’s shop portal. 

Purchases of Tesla Tequila are expected to be shipped in late 2020, and the secondary market for the product is already heating up with those first in looking to on sell the limited release.  People have already begun listing the product on E Bay, with some prices climbing above $1000 USD for an unopened (and yet undelivered) bottle of Tesla Tequila.  Others are listing empty lightning strike bottles.  Tesla CEO Elon Musk first revealed plans to launch a Tequila in October 2018 under the name ‘Teslaquila,’ which was originally thought to be an April Fools Day Joke.   Editorial credit: Kathy Hutchins / Shutterstock.com The Teslaquila concept ran afoul of the Tequila Regulatory Council after Musk registered for the ‘Teslaquila’ trademark in the US Patent and Trademark Office.  The trade group argued against the name as it evokes the word ‘Tequila’, which is protected in the US.  Tesla Tequila has no such worries. There is no word yet whether the company will be adding to their first alcohol offering.
