When it comes to streaming services Netflix rules the roost. Since changing from a DVD and Blu-ray merchant to a streaming platform in 2007, the company has become a content behemoth. Netflix has over 195 million paid subscriptions worldwide, including 73 million in the United States. It’s the largest entertainment/media company in the world and continues to pump hundreds of millions of dollars into new content.

All of this investment seems to be paying off after Netflix revealed 82 million households around the world tuned into Bridgerton. For those not in the know, Bridgerton is a period drama focusing on the Bridgerton family. Think a sexier version of The Crown. While it sounds a bit naff, the series has been critically revered. It ranked as the number one show in 83 countries including the US, UK, Brazil, France, India, and South Africa. It also made Netflix’s Top 10 in all 190 countries where Netflix is available (except Japan).

The viewing figures are based on the first four weeks a series is streamed on Netflix. In the month following Christmas Bridgerton surpassed the former most-watched show, The Witcher, by six million views. With the recent announcement of Bridgerton season two, it looks like this steamy drama has many more years left to run.
