The newest Marvel adaptation to hit the screens later this year is Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. The action movie follows main character Shang-Chi, a skilled martial artist and assassin who is trying to create a new life in America but is sucked back into the deadly world he tried to leave behind.

Similar to Black Panther, this flick is broadening the Marvel universe in both scope and representation. The all-Asian cast stars Simu Liu as the titular Shang-Chi, who was trained since birth by his father, Wenwu (Tony Leung), to become an assassin. After walking away from the Ten Rings criminal organization to start a new life in San Francisco, Shang-Chi finds himself unable to escape his past.

Along with Liu and Leung, the extended cast includes Awkwafina as Shang-Chi’s friend Katy and Michelle Yeoh as Jiang Nan. The movie also stars Fala Chen, Meng’er Zhang, Florian Munteanu, and comedian Ronny Chieng. The film is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton (fresh off the success of Just Mercy) from a screenplay by Cretton, David Callaham, and Andrew Lanham. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings opens in theaters on September 3, 2021.
