Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey has now become the best-selling African American-owned and founded spirit brand in history. Uncle Nearest, which recently topped our list of the best Tennesse whiskies, has sold nearly 1.5 million bottles of its sought after super-premium whiskey since making its debut on shelves in 2017. Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey debuted in July 2017 with its 1856 Premium Aged Whiskey. “No African American founded and led spirit brand has ever come close to what the Uncle Nearest brand and team have done,” said Donn Bischel of spirits data analysis agency, 3 Tiers. “We analyzed every piece of credible data and Uncle Nearest is undoubtedly the top seller of all time, with the rest of the top 10 being so far behind, that they barely registered.” Uncle Nearest 1856 Premium Whiskey is named after legendary African American master distiller Nathan “Nearest” Green, the man who taught Jack Daniel. It’s crafted using a combination of corn and rye, put through the Lincoln County Process of charcoal mellowing before being oak barrel aged. “I couldn’t be more excited that this announcement is coming on the heels of International Women’s Day, given that we are the only major spirit brand with an all-female executive team,” said Victoria Eady Butler, the brand’s Master Distiller and a fifth-generation descendent of Nearest Green. “Reaching this achievement at this moment in time is important as it reminds folks that whiskey is the great equalizer. The support this brand has received has been across every race and gender. As it turns out, people just care that it’s a damn good whiskey, only matched by the remarkable legacy of my ancestor.” The whiskey is made using a non- temperature-controlled aging process and a unique post-aging double filtration method, which is then blended to perfection by fifth-generation Butler. The nose tempts buttery vanilla and brown sugar mixed with currants. The palate features deft caramel corn whiskey, cereal oats, a touch of wood, and grasses with depth from brown sugar. The company’s whiskey portfolio is currently made up of its small-batch whiskey (SRP $49.99), its rare single barrel whiskey (SRP $119), and its core aged whiskey offering (SRP $59.99).  Since making its debut in 2017 the company has expanded availability to 21,000 locations and is beginning to tap the international whiskey market and expand beyond 12 countries.
